Maker City: After School

The Maker City programme has been a winning course for [my son].  He has thoroughly enjoyed learning how to use the varied equipment, engaging with others and, most importantly, thinking creatively.  He has a passion for 3D making and, with growing cuts to schools funding, having the opportunity to join courses like this is invaluable for his learning.

– Parent

Maker City is awesome!

– Thomas, 12

Maker City supports young people aged 10 – 16 to learn how to use a variety of digital making technologies such as laser cutters, 3D printers, vacuum formers, vinyl cutters and digital embroidery machines. We encourage young people to think ‘outside the box’ and make new products, whilst challenging them to creatively solve problems.

Throughout the 10 week course, young people develop digital skills whilst also learning about social action and becoming active citizens in their community. We encourage young people to think differently about what “failing” means, and that, in practice, failing is a major part of any design process. At the end of the 10 weeks, the young people will have a final product that they’ve designed and made themselves and will graduate from the course.

When: Tuesdays, 4.30 – 6pm

Who: 10 – 16 year olds

Where: Knowle West Media Centre, Leinster Avenue, BS41NL
