During a week in June 2019, Maker City worked in collaboration with the Centre of Innovation at the University of Bristol to put together a week long design thinking week for 12 students from UoB and 24 Year 10 students from across Bristol to work together to solve RSA pupil design award challenges. The week was based around the young people working collectively on an issue using design thinking methodology. They spent two days at the University of Bristol, one day at Knowle West Media Centre, one day at KWMC: The Factory and one day at Engine Shed where they presented their ideas.
It was a really successful week as the young people grew in confidence dramatically, some of them had never worked with people that they didn’t know before so it was an eye opening experience. The young people worked on ideas generation and used design thinking to build their projects. The Maker City team learnt some ideas about how to incorporate some design thinking methods into the Maker City programme.
